Map of The Basque Country

The Ekain Cave, famous for its cave paintings from the Magdalenian Period, is in the Basque Country; it is part of a complex of prehistoric caves around the Bay of Biscay. There are other such sanctuaries in the Basque Country, such as Altxerri, Santimamiñe and Isturitz.

There are various Magdalenian sites surrounding Ekain. Eight kilometres away is the important Urtiaga site, and Ermittia is some nine kilometres away. The sites Aitzbeltz and Agarre are approximately seven and ten kilometres away, the access to them is more difficult. Erralla is ten km to the east, crossing the River Urola and going up the facing mountains.
